The prime issues with dystopian stories are survival, rebellion, and oppression and are all concerned with the environment for instance pollution, revolutions and other disasters. Their portrayal is symbolic and happens in the future. In this science fiction novel, the story revolves around the future government censoring and restricting practices and books respectively. The novel is also about the impact of television, mass media, and intellectual freedom of people in the society. The dystopian stories stresses on the sense of powerlessness of the people amidst oppressive and brutal dictatorial government. Since the fiction stories were developed after World War II, it condemns the oppressive political climate of that time. The author uses the symbol of clock buzzing the whole day to depict how people lack their own power to engage in something and how they depend on the command of some sort of authority. The author is of the view that any technological advances made by the society is useless if the people destroy each other. He uses the story of fire destroying restricted books to show a dystopic society.
