Abbreviations should also be avoided like "can't", "Shouldn't", and "doesn't." "Colloquial words demonstrate lack of respect or understanding for your subject matter." Therefore, one should be very specific about the subject matter being discussed.

Objectivity- "the main emphasis should be on the information that you want to give and the arguments you want to make, rather than you." This explains the objectivity of academic writing since academic writing tends to use nouns and adjectives more than verbs and adverbs. Therefore, academic writing should have a general objective rather than personal.
