An asset-based approach focuses on strengths. It views diversity in thought, culture, and traits as positive assets. Teachers and students alike are valued for what they bring to the classroom rather than being characterized by what they may need to work on or lack. The individual personal attribute-based approach gives little consideration to more relational-holistic, person-based approaches that emphasize students' agency in determining which graduate attributes they develop, why they choose to develop them, and through what means. As a teacher, I will focus on the strengths and attributes of my students to know how to advise them towards excellence in academics. I will capitalize on their talents and strengths to help them achieve their goals in academics.
