Self-evaluation can take numerous forms and can happen at any point during one's professional development. It will also include a variety of references to assist you in your research. Other sources, such as your own PRD areas for development and your school/department/improvement organization's plan, may also be used in your self-evaluation, in addition to the Standards.

  1. Reflective Questions: These reflective questions offer opportunities for thought and contemplation. They are not an all-inclusive list, but they are excellent beginning places.
  2. Self-evaluation Wheels: The self-evaluation wheels are great coaching tools to help you with your self-evaluation. Working with a coach or simply using them to reflect and ask some deeper questions about your engagement with the Standards/key components of the Standards could be beneficial.

Self-assessment should help you to:

  • Consider what you've accomplished.
  • Consider what you might do next.
  • Take into account your progress and development.
  • Understand your professional practice, professional learning, and how it affects your thinking, professional actions, those you work with/support, and students' learning.

3.Enquiry: Taking a 'enquiring position' during the self-evaluation process can be beneficial. It's a willingness to question and challenge your own beliefs and practices. Enquiry is about understanding something deeply and approaching it critically; it both informs and is a component of rigorous self-evaluation.
