Teachers play an important role in the religious development of adolescents. They impart basic knowledge and perspective to students on the various types of religions existing in the world and a deeper dive into faith so they can knowledgeably pick their religious identification. With such information, adolescents can embrace, reject or leave a set of religious beliefs to percolate in their quest for self-identity. Teachers also teach students a set of religious values and practices to live by such as kindness, honesty and compassion. These sets of values are essential in eliminating intolerance, hate and prejudice in the world. By teaching religion and thus, playing a part in the religious development of adolescents, teachers help young people to better understand other people and other societies. Finding connections, correlations, relationships and causation relative to religion is imperative for adolescents to understand much of what has occurred in history, politically, in literature and, personal relationships. Through learning religion, adolescents can see the long-term effects of beliefs that permeate cultures today that arose from religions and world views of the past.
