Constructivist perspective on learning infers that learners construct knowledge rather than just passively take in information. Its central idea is that human learning is constructed. As young learners undergo through new experiences, they reflect upon them and establish their own representations. They incorporate new information into their schemas. According to the constructivist theory, students learn optimally when engaged in learning experiences rather than passively receiving information (learning is an active process), learning is a social process as it's tied within a social context and, the goal of teaching is to provide experiences that facilitate construction of knowledge. Constructivists also posit that knowledge can only exist within the human mind, and that it does not have to match any real world reality.
