Topic: Socrates the Father of Western Philosophy.

Socrates (469–399 B.C.E.) was a greek philosopher who is considered a father of western philosophy. Apart from teaching known scholars such as Plato and Xenophon he influenced the development of the western civilisation. One of his most signficant contribution is his emphasy on self-enquiry as a learning approach. He did not claim to have the answers; he would merely ask questions to his students, forcing them to think for themselves and question their own dogmas and beliefs.

Thesis Statement: The works of Socrates influence western education and development to date.
