After five minutes of reading, I have a vague understanding of both the location and the family that the story is based on. I'm also however left curious concerning the surfing incident that was mentioned in page one.

After further reading down to page 12, the writer continues to paint a picture of Hawaii coupled with the various surfing spots and beaches around. The story dives further deeper into the character's lives by describing some background information about the parents and their love for surfing.
