Ferdinand Joseph Lamothe professionally famously known as Jelly Roll Morton was an American ragtime and jazz pianist, bandleader and composer. While listening to Jelly music one can hear that he often played the melody with his right thumb while sounding a harmony above these notes with the fingers of the right hand. This technique can be identified with New Orleans. Consequently, Jelly Morton played basic swing rhythms with both the left and the right hand.

In addition, most of his compositions were tributes to him for instance “winin Boy”. Consequently, in his development of his career he resided in Washington D.C to become the manger and piano player at a club, additionally Morton was also a master of ceremony, bouncer and a bartender.

Conversely his music was of a composer as an improviser, his application of counter melody and harmony and his understanding of eloquence and delicacies of timbre had evolved during those years on the road and they really gave jazz a new vibrant. To be specific Jelly Morton was the first jazz composer of importance. Morton Red Hot Peppers band of the mid 1920s is regarded as incomparable forging its significance in its own more formal way.
