The poem Night of the Scorpion says that it was the night when the mother of the poet got stung by a scorpion and cried all night. A lot of people have different perceptions on the events of that night some say it was a punishment or curse for the wrong dids she did in her past life. She however thanks God for sparing her children of the pain the next day after the pain was over.
