Answer:
BS 8888 - British standard, it was developed in the BSI Group for the production of technical documentation for the manufacture of engineering drawings.
BS 8888 performs the following tasks:
Unification of all ISO standards applicable to technical documentation;
Defines the ISO index associated with various principles of the technical specification of the product;
Providing a single platform for explanatory comments of technical documentation.
If each engineer will make technical documentation, as it is convenient for him and as it seems to him right, other designers or manufacturers of the product for their further work, will have to contact a specific engineer who has developed this or that documentation. This is not always possible, and greatly reduces the possibilities for further development, and also greatly slows down the production possibilities.
The use of one standard in the development of technical documentation, allows all engineers to properly understand this documentation, and manufacturers to accurately produce products based on this documentation.
Standard BS 8888 was updated in 2000 from the standard BS 308, which was in operation since 1927. Many generations of engineers have worked with him, and many educational institutions have learned engineers on his base. Plus, it was improved in the process of its use. The standard takes into account many modern trends. And so its use in the creation of technical documentation is preferable.
