Identify internal security measures in a correctional center

Correction centers can be described as an institution where people are held for breaking laws and rules of their country. The inmates are in held prisons forcibly, and as such, an elaborate security system must be in place to prevent the escape of dangerous elements back to communities.

The security of a correction center can be categorized into physical security, procedural security, and dynamic security. All these must be in tandem to ensure that the correctional facility and its inhabitants are safe.

Physical security is a security measure geared towards ensuring that inmates have no access to the outer world. this measure encompasses high walls, fencing, gates, metal detectors, CCTVs, watchtowers, motion sensors, among others (“physical security,” 2020). All these are put in place to deter escape by inmates and reduce unnecessary freedom for prisoners

Procedural security is defined as an accepted standard approach or mode of conducting roles and activities in a correctional center. According to Undoc.org (2020), procedural security is an approach expected to aid prison authorities in achieving regulation, consistency, and fairness. Procedures include checklists that provide controls that ensure everything is done right.

Procedural security measures and physical security measures are essential but cannot work effectively without dynamic security measures. Dynamic measures entail, alert, professional, and well-trained prison staff. This measure requires prison staff to be aware of the ongoing in prison and foster positive staff –prisoner relationships. Through effective communication and firm fairness, the prison staff can help make the inmates feel comfortable and cordial hence reduce the need for escape. This boosts prison security.
