The number of chromosomes in mitosis is equal to the number of chromosomes present in the parent cell. For example, if the parent cell has 30 chromosomes then the daughter cell will also have 30 chromosomes.

On the other hand, in the case of meiosis, the number of chromosomes reduced to half in the daughter cell. For example, if the number of chromosomes in the parent cell is 30 then daughter cells will have 15 chromosomes (half of the parental chromosomes).
