Each bacteriophage has a protein coat.

The bacteriophage genome that can be presented by DNA or RNA (but not both of them simultaneously) is covered with a capsid consisting of proteins. In addition to the bacteriophage protein head where the nucleic acid is stored, it also contains protein tail that is involved in the attachment to the bacterial surface and delivery of the nucleic acid inside the bacterial cell.
