Answer to Question #20890 in Statistics and Probability for sandra

Question #20890
A zoologist, Ursus Major, was interested in somehow predicting the weight of
polar bears from other physical characteristics. This had been done
previously and Ursus wanted to know if the relationship had changed and if it
had, perhaps this could be used to infer that something was impacting on the
population. He ran a regression analysis where he modelled the logarithm of
the weight of the bears against their Age, Chest circumference, Length and
the Square of their Length. The results are below. Perform the appropriate
hypothesis tests to decide:
a. ls there a relationship between the logarithm of weight and the
predictors?

b. What predictors are necessary for the final model?
c. ls the intercept necessary for the final model?
d. Does the residuals versus fits plot give you confidence that the model
is appropriate and if so, why?
e. What would you do to obtain the final model?
