Occupational safety is concerned with the health, safety, and welfare of individuals at work or occupation. An occupation safety goal entails fostering a healthy and safe occupational environment. Under the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, this paper explains the understanding of the responsibilities of an individual tasked to set up a functioning health and safety committee.

·        One thing to note first is that in law the employers have a duty to take reasonable care of the safety of their workers.

·        Another responsibility is to ensure that the committee has the knowledge needed to ensure health, welfare, and safety at the workplace.

·        The other duty includes the provision and maintenance of systems, plants, and procedures of work that are safe and should pose risk to the workers.

·        The other responsibility includes arrangements for ensuring safety and absence of risks to health in connection with the use, handling, storage, and transport of articles and substances.

·  To ensure the safety and health at work of every person employed, the other duty is the provision of such information, instruction, training, and supervision that are necessary to ensure safety.

·        Creating a committee capable of informing all persons employed of——any risks from new technologies, imminent danger; and ensuring that every person employed participates in the application and review of safety and health measures.
