Insurance agents and development staff on a day to day basis are involved in looking for new clients for their insurance products. Some of these products are life, disability, health, home, long-term care, liability, property insurance among other insurance products. Insurance agents either work directly for insurance companies or refer clients to independent brokers or work as independent brokers.

Insurance agents assist their clients to evaluate their needs for insurance coverage, walk their clients through details of different insurance plans, make tailor-made recommendations that suit their needs, update their coverage periodically, and serve as an advocate in dealing with insurance companies, hospitals, government agencies, etc. They also help business owners to communicate beneficial packages to workers.

 Insurance agents take it upon themselves to call on policyholders to explain policy and to constantly scrutinize insurance programs and suggest changes or to change beneficiaries.

Once a client decides on the coverage, the agent submits an application to one or more insurance companies. He then helps the client select the best option after the companies provide their quotes. He keeps in constant communication with the client throughout the coverage period and notifies him in cases of changes with the policy. Finally, after it matures, the agent helps out with claims since he is the interface between the insurance and the client.
