Duress refers to an act of making someone do something against their will or making someone perform an illegal act using threats, coercion or even other illicit means. Duress is pressure exerted upon a person to coerce that person to perform an act they ordinarily would not perform. An example of duress is when a prisoner is tortured until they confess.
