The War of 1812, British navy ships primarily sent to blockade most of the American ports where many of whom had been impressed into service. By contrast, the US Navy had seven relatively new frigates, which were also fairly big, as well as well-armed, and garrisoned by motivated and well-trained volunteer crews. The value of those frigates was evident in initial American victories since the defeat of US Constitution along with the capture of HMS Guerriere during a ship-to-ship battle which took place in August 1812. By the way, aiming to avoid British blockade "Jefferson combined nonexportation with nonimportation in the Embargo Act of December 1807. This Law prohibited Americans from trading with any foreign countries until France and Britain buckled under to national and international pressure and recognized America`s free-trade rights. " (Schweikart et al., 2014)
