do you think the music and dance of yesteryears is favoured by the young generation of today?
Music and dances of each historical period are vivid expressions of the worldview and lifestyle preferences of society at a given time. Young people are the most responsive part of society that is particularly sensitive to the social and cultural realities characterizing the period. Moreover, they are usually intent on creating their own sub-cultural models and patterns that express their expectations, aspirations or disappointment. Therefore, they prefer to have their own styles of music and dancing, rather than draw on what can be offered by musical and dancing traditions. Rap is a good example of music that expresses the significance of Afro-American contribution to the national culture in the 1980s facilitated by important social transformations of society and demonstrating impulsive behavior and relaxed lifestyle. Therefore, music and dance of previous periods are likely to be favored by more mature people, with traditional values and worldview, while the young want to have their own music and dancing “languages” expressing their time and its priorities.
