Answer to Question #137769 in History for Pranav

Question #137769
What is most striking about the similarities and the differences between the Israeli Declaration of Independence (1948), the Palestinian National Charter (1968), and the Hamas Convenant (1988)? To what degree do you think these documents can be used as a focal point for discussing the core issues and historical trajectory of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict?
Expert's answer

They are all national charters aimed at self-determination in the regions. However, the Israeli Declaration of Independence (1948) is the official document emitted when Israel struggled for its independence. The Palestinian National Charter (1968) shows a year after the Arabs lost the Six Day War and when there was a shift in Palestinian thinking, and produced for the first time a demand for a Palestinian state. Also, the Hamas Covenant (1988) is a charter proclaimed by extremist Islamic organization with a goal of destroying the State of Israel through jihad. The clash of ideologies and values in the documents has led t the endurance of the Israeli-Palestine Conflict.
