Marian anderson as a black individual was subjected to numerous instances of racism such as being refused to perform at Washington's constitution hall. This segregation of the black community promoted bold protest against racial intolerance, performed before a diverse crowd. Anderson despite being a fiercely private person transformed into a symbol for the nascent civil rights movement, to an extent of inspiring a 10-year-old Martin Luther King, Jr., through her message on the radio.
