Newlands law of octaves was rejected mainly because of;

Law of octaves: if the chemical elements are arranged according to increasing atomic weight, those with similar physical and chemical properties occur after each interval of seven elements.

But this law didn’t work well for the elements heaver then Ca, also, newly discovered elements could not fit into the octave structure. But the reason why it was rejected by the Chemistry Society was that it was too similar to the octaves in music.
