Oxides of non-metals possess acidic properties, and if soluble, they react with water giving the corresponding acids:
SO3 + H2O –> H2SO4
P2O5 + 3H2O –> 2H3PO4
CO2 + H2O ⇄ H2CO3
2NO2 + H2O –> HNO2 + HNO3
Concerning the insoluble oxides, they do not react with water at all:
SiO2 + H2O ⇏
