Ethane CH3CH3 is non-polar, and subject only to dispersion forces. As hydrogen bonding is usually the strongest of the intermolecular forces, one would expect the boiling points of these compounds to correlate with hydrogen bonding interactions present.

Mg2+ is essentially ionic; the difference in electronegativity between magnesium and oxygen is appreciable. There will be strong interionic bonds between Mg2+ and O2-.
