Rubidium is an alkali metal in the same group (Group I) as sodium and as one goes down the group the ionization energy decreases.

Hence Rb also reacts with water leading to the formation of hydrogen gas. Its reaction with water is similar to that of sodium.


2Rb (s) + 2H2O (l) → H2 (g) + 2RbOH (l)
