Answer to Question #185480 in General Chemistry for Boakye Ansah

Question #185480

the rate ot the reaction X + 2Y = Z is equal to eight times the rate constant when [X] = 2M and [Y] = 2M. Deduce TWO possible expressions for the equation. If the nital concentration of each reactant is 2M, deduce in tems of the rate constance K a possible value for the rate of the reaction when the concentration of Z, reaches 0.2M.

X + 2Y = Z

The Rate of the reaction is-

"R=k[M][M]^2\\Rightarrow R=kM^3~~~~-(1)"

When The concentration become doubles The new rate-

"R'=k[2M][2M]^2=8kM^3"

When 0.2M of Z formed, The concentration of X=1.8M and of Y=1.8M

Therefore The Rate is-

"R=k[1.8M][1.8M]^2=5.83kM^3"
