Answer to Question #147430 in General Chemistry for Galata

Question #147430
Calculate the average atomic mass of magnesium using the following data for three magnesium isotopes. (Abundance not in percentage form)
Isotope=(Mg-24, Mg-25, Mg26), Mass(amu)=(23.985, 24.986, 25.983) & Relative abundance=(0.7870, 0.1013, 0.1117

To calculate our average atomic mass we format;

(RA/TRA)×mass

Where RA=Relative Abundance and TRA=Total Relative Abundance

Then we find for each isotopes then add them together

(0.7870/1)×23.985) + (0.1013/1)×24.986) + (0.1117/1)×25.983)

=18.876 + 2.531 + 2.902

Average atomic mass=24.309
