Answer to Question #117940 in General Chemistry for Frank Zeroh

Question #117940
Question 3

A. The H+ ion concentration in a solution is given as 10⁻12 mol L⁻1. State its pH value and state whether it is an acid or base.

B. 1 mole of poassium hydroxide reacts with 1 mole of sulphuric acid solution.

I. Write a balance equation, giving states of the above reactions

ii. Write a balanced net ionic equation of the above reaction(states not required)

iii. Sodium hydroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid as follows;

NaOH (aq) + HCl (aq) = NaCl (aq) + H20 (l)

20ml of 0.1 molar solution of hydrocholric acid neutralizes 8 ml of sodium hydroxide solution.

Calculate the concentration of sodium hydroxide solution in mol L⁻1.

ii. 1 mole of sodium hydroxide is made to react with exactly 1 mole of carbonic acid (H2CO3). Write a balance equation of the reaction(states are not required).

A)

Water at 25oC contains 10-7 mol/L H+ and OH- ions

so if we add 10-12 mol/L H+ ions then it will make the solution slightly acidic but as we know 10-12 is very very less in front of 10-7 so the pH of the solution will remain to be 7

B)

"2KOH+H_2SO_4\\to K_2SO_4+2H_2O"

This is the balanced reaction
