Energy decreases as it moves up trophic levels because energy is lost as metabolic heat when the organisms from one trophic level are consumed by organisms from the next level. Typically, about 10% of the energy is transferred from one trophic level to the next. As a result, the available energy at each trophic levels is as follows:

Producers - 12,000 J.

Primary consumers - 1,200 J.

Secondary consumers - 120 J.

Answer: 120 J
