To avoiding swelling which may cause bursting Paramecium has two contractile vacuoles. These vacuoles helps to control the excess movement of water into its body.

After water enters its body, the contractile vacuole will swell and when it reaches its maximum size the vacuole will burst and release water to the surrounding.
