Predict what would happen if acetyl phosphate (a mixed anhydride of acetic and phosphoric acids) is used as the enzyme substrate in the presence of 32P inorganic phosphate. Hint: A catalyst catalyzes are reaction equally in the forward and in the reverse direction.

The enzyme glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is vital in the process that involves the production of energy and subsequently in the process of the photosynthesis. It is involved in the provision of energy by the breakdown of glucose in the sixth step. In the reaction, the bonds are broken by heating which weakens the bonds that hold the molecules together. If Acetyl phosphate is used, as the enzyme-substrate in the presence of 32P inorganic phosphate the rate of the reaction will still occur at a faster rate but the formation will not be as fast as when we use the first catalyst.
